Document

Bae Sejin has been creating ceramic objects by piecing small soil fragments with serial numbers at consistent intervals over ten years. The fragments with serial numbers has built his own philosophy. Originating from Samuel Beckett’s play Waiting for Godot, the same title is given to all of his.

Enduring time for good soil, molding and drying the soil properly - the process of baking at a high temperature and cooling speaks for the circulation of time. Afterwards, in order to maximize the repetitive work of ceramics, the plates made out of soil become a block with a serial number. Putting these blocks together, a continuous act of the artist's circular labor, becomes a record of the artist's internal time.
