The Print Bakery Gallery will be hosting a large-scale Yuya Hashizume exhibition, “EYEWATER: Common Jade,” from March 17 through April 13 at Gana Forum Space in Seoul’s Pyeongchang-dong district. Hashizume, who is active not only in his native Japan but also throughout Europe and Asia, is one of the most noted faces in the global art scene and art market. The exhibition’s 13 paintings will be featured alongside 10 artworks, comprising seven original paintings from Print Bakery’s The Hyundai Seoul location and three limited editions (ceramic, art toy, and print) designed by Print Bakery based on works by Hashizume.
Best known for his Eyewater series (paintings with a monochrome background featuring an animation-like character shedding tears from one eye), Hashizume will be featuring creations in this exhibition that were inspired by the distinct greenish blue of Goryeo celadon. The similarity between Hashizume’s prioritization of color combinations/positioning and the subtle blend of blue and green, which resembles the colors of the kingfisher, is compounded by the fact that the artist chose to display his Korean celadon-inspired artworks in Korea.
