PBG presents Nostalgia, a solo exhibition by Kwon Hana, who channels her own various situations and emotions through ‘Nana,’ a character with coy eyes. Nostalgia is a word that evokes longing for the past; any time in life can remain as someone’s memory and thus as nostalgia. The artist traces life’s threads back to the past and presents works that allow us to reflect on that time and space.
While capturing the process of growing up through the character of Nana, who represents the artist and acts as her alter ego, Kwon Hana depicts her honest inner side in multiple variations, depending on the time and place. We naturally sympathize with her, as she stays up on a lonely night with a drink on a gloomy day and gets angry when she is distressed.
This exhibition features about fifty artworks ranging from canvas paintings to drawings and objets. In particular, in the artist’s room-cum-Nana’s room, works reflecting prudent concerns the artist has had so far will also be displayed. As each work is organically connected, you can fully sense the narrative of a person living and growing. We hope that many people in need of empathy will be healed through these works that portray the artist’s journey to find inner stability and order.

Kwon Hana

Kwon Hana's canvas is composed of memorial fragments. She reconstructs the process of distorted memories being stored from past events. Both emotions and narratives are edited and recorded through her own methods without hesitation. Through her own character ‘Nana’, who represents the artist herself and also as an alter ego, Kwon Hana frankly depicts inner side and past memories in harmony with the mediums related to past memories at her canvas. Various foods and objects are transformed along with characters with subtle expressions, containing their stories. Each work is organically connected - we can think the narrative of someone’s life with growth. It contains her story such as her obsession with food, memories, and unhappy birthdays.
