PBG presents a solo exhibition of Lee Anon titled Beyond the Silence happening from 4th of July to 24 of July 2024. Lee Anon reveals “albino” creatures, those who are short of melanin pigments, in the midst of mysterious and tranquil forests to unfold the stories of life and growth. This is the first exhibition that PBG is having with the artist where 37 of her new works are showcased. It invites the viewers to the forest of life that Lee visualizes. Moreover, the exhibition attempts to provide an opportunity to fully experience her works varying significantly in sizes.
Lee’s albino creatures at first glance appear small and vulnerable. Paradoxically however, they serve as an analogy of boldness and bravery. Artist Kim Sunwoo has once related Lee’s work with a line in Hermann Hesse’s novel Demian. That is because in her paintings he felt that the albinos, easily exposed to their predators, take risks to step forward to the external world fiercely yet peacefully. In this sense, Lee’s paintings are seen as silent struggle, and eventually the existence of ourselves living in the harsh world. They are the mirrors that reflect the artist and us, a hope to live with solidarity and resonance. Since they are white, albinos can accept any colors that they may encounter. The exhibition wishes to be a stepping-stone for the artist to grow further, bravely, together with audience.
